Tips for Finding Great New Mexico Homes

If you are considering a move to the southwest, you should think about New Mexico. It is a large rural pace which has a lot to offer to the people living there as far as real estate is concerned. There are many year round outdoor activities, cultural events and celebrations. The prices of real estate are very different depending on the geographical location throughout the state. Santa Fe which is the capital of New Mexico is located in the north central part; Los Alamos is thirty minutes west of Santa Fe and a bit further on I-25 is Albuquerque which is the largest city in the state.

You have probably heard about Historic Route 66. It passes directly through Albuquerque where there are many nostalgic cafes and businesses along the route. If you keep on in south direction you will get to Truth of Consequences and then Las Cruces which is the second largest city in New Mexico. This is the place where I-25 ends and I-10 begins. Forty miles south are El Paso, Texas and the Mexico border. If you choose to go to the east, you will soon find yourself in Roswell and to the west, in Silver City located in the Gila Mountains.

After you got orientated in the state, lets have a look at the New Mexico homes opportunities. Buying a home in the north central part of the state, in or around Santa Fe and Los Alamos is quite expensive. However, if there is any chance you can afford it; my advice is to get a home there. You will be surrounded by magnificent mountains, high desert mesas and truly astonishing views. It is also a great idea to live further north, near the town of Abiquiu and the Abiquiu Reservoir. I am sure you are well aware of the fact that you can find New Mexico homes at a reasonable price when they are in town or surrounding areas but they get much more expensive when they are near the waterfront.

Have you ever heard of Georgia O'Keeffe? She is a very famous painter who used her Abiquiu ranch to draw her most astonishing portraits. In case you'd rather live in a bigger place, then consider Albuquerque. New Mexico homes vary greatly in price, so no matter what is your budget you can still find a home which would suit your needs as well as your pocket. If you have some extra cash, maybe you will like Las Cruces, known as being one of the class retirement destinations in the country.

The prime place to find great New Mexico homes if you're considering moving is the Internet. Hop online and view available New Mexico ranches, flats and land for sale. You can get all properties available for sale from the Multiple Listing Service. Accessing the MLS is easy; most of the real estate sites offer it. You can also view some virtual tours of New Mexico homes which is the second best in case you cannot go there.

If you're consider purchasing a home or a property, New Mexico is the right place to look for any. By buying a New Mexico home you will make a great investment. Not only will you be able to enjoy clean air and cosy life but you will also get three hundred days of sunshine a year. The weather in New Mexico is temperate all year round because of the mountains and desert serve. Thus, if you have the money, don't hesitate to buy a new home in New Mexico. You will never regret it.

Important Facts About Mp3 And Mp4 Players

Mpeg-1 Audio Layer 3, more commonly referred to as mp3, is a popular digital audio encoding format. A device that is designed to greatly reduce the amount of data required to represent the audio recording, by retaining the sound from the original uncompressed state. Mp3 is an audio-specific compression format. By compressing, certain sounds that cannot be heard by the listener outside the normal human hearing range, are removed. This makes the sound clearly audible to the listener.

The mp3 players have changed the evolution of music. The good old records, eight-track tapes, cassette tapes and CDs no doubt gave the music lovers a good time but none of these earlier music formats provided the convenience and control that mp3 players provide. It is as convenient as keeping it in your hand or pocketing it. You can create personalized music lists and carry thousands of songs wherever you go. Mp3 players are offered in different shapes and sizes.

For those who want to be with the time by possessing the latest gadgets or be the first ones to have them, here is a list of some popular mp3 player brands: Apple, Archos, Creative, Olympus, RCA, Rio, Samsung, SanDisk, Sony and iRiver. Most of these have good amount of storage capacity, screen size, compatable to Apple MacOS X 10.3.4 or later, Microsoft Windows XP SP2 or later, Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4 or later.

Mpeg-4 Part 14, a multimedia container format commonly known as Mpeg-4. It is a device that stores digital audio and digital video streams, especially those defined by mpeg. Subtitles and still images are also stored. Mpeg-4 Part 14 allows streaming over the Internet. The filename extension for Mpeg-4 Part 14 files is .mp4, thus the name mp4. Devices that play .mp4 files are referred to as mp4 players.

The evolution of mp4 player devices has lead to providing more features such as fm tuner, voice recorder, email, and Internet browser capability. As it is capable of delivering audio and video at the same time, mp4 devices can offer a wide range of interesting features, such as web browsing, email, instant messaging, video and music download, Bluetooth wireless technology, digital camera and others. Not to forget the game capability, voice recording and multiple language options. The storage capacity is amazing which can start from 256 mega bites up to 40, 60 and up giga bites.

Mp4 is the next step in the evolution of music after mp3. The difference between mp4 and mp3 formats is that, mp4 devices hold both audio and video files. As for the mp3 it only holds the audio type file.

iPod is a brand of portable media players designed and marketed by Apple. The iPod name has become synonymous with mp3 or mp4 players as it is the most popular brand and holds the biggest share of the market. Devices in the iPod range are primarily digital audio players. These devices can be used to store an entire music library. This is not all, it can also be used to view and transfer photos, videos, games, and calendars to the models that support them.

With PDA-like functionality, text files can be displayed, while contacts and schedules can be viewed and synchronized with the host computer. It comes with built-in games like Brick, Parachute, Solitaire, and Music Quiz. It is condensed, brawny and frivolous, and is easy enough to carry along in your palm, in your pocket, or purse.

The storage capacity varies from 512 mb to 80+ gb. It has a powerful 60 mw amplifier so it can deliver audio as loud as you want. It also has a 20 MZ to 20 khz frequency responses. This means, you can hear distortion free music at the least pitches. iPod is a very handy mp3 mp4 player indeed!

Accessing Legal Forms For All

Legal forms today have become the most readily accessible form of doing it yourself legal work. Lawyers can be overpriced and overrated in some aspects for basic stuff such as preparation of an affidavit or a motion in a bankruptcy proceeding. Whatever the case, it all depends on the situation of the consumer. In some cases it is absolutely necessary to obtain legal counsel as the UPL is very strict on the guidelines of what you can and can't do. Paralegal services are a new craze it seems.

Paralegals have always been around doing the basic work for the lawyers to help them do there job. It now seems like they have branched out and are using there knowledge to benefit those who can not afford an attorney and just need a basic legal form for there circumstances. Independent paralegal services are a wave of relief as in most small business and low income families we know what we want and we do not need anything fancy but we can't afford the attorney's price which base out in the low 100's for nothing at all really.

A lot of websites now days offer legal forms fully customized within UPL standards for you at a cost as low as 5.00 per form. The problem is that most of these sites do not aid to a growing population of Hispanics. http://www.needlegalwork.com is a great site that offers customized legal forms delivered to you via email as well as in person at unbelievable prices. Most of the work is done locally as notary services are offered as well. Need Legal Forms? is a company that is trying to aid basic needs for low income people who need a basic form and who may need it in Spanish or just feels better about talking to someone who knows Spanish instead being confused the entire time the process is being ordered. This website offers forms in all areas of law including Probate, Business, Administrative, Bankruptcy, Real Estate, Rental, Property Management, Auto and More.

There are many other legal form websites out there equally good in there own aspect. This idea of getting what you need at the tip of a button is magic and can help those in need without breaking there pocket books.

Interview with Howard Shapiro, a Children book author: Top Five Tips on Raising Kids

Interview with Howard October 24 2006

Q: What are you working on now?

At the moment I am marketing my Hanukkah book for the 2nd year and trying to get my anti-bullying book into schools, foundations etc.

After the first of the year, I am planning to start work on my third book "Hockey Day's" which I hope to have out in October, 2007.

Q: Tell us about your two books?

My first book was published in October, 2005. It is called "Hanukkah Counts Too!" and the premise is that there are a brother (Tom) and a sister (Tupelo) who are each eight years old and they live in a predominately non-Jewish area and they are bombarded by Christmas images, shows, movies etc. And Tupelo, questions why they have to be different and why Santa can't bring her a tree or presents. She runs upstairs on the first night of Hanukkah but has a heart-to-heart talk with her older cousin and after the talk she comes to realize that Hanukkah is an important holiday and that it matters (and counts) too.

My new book which was released on September 12th, is called "Destructo Boy & Spillerella...We Are Who We Are!" and it is an anti-bullying story. It again involves Tom and Tupelo, who are being bullied by a big fourth grader. First the bully starts picking on Tom and then Tupelo and Tom has a chat with his Dad who reminds him that he has strength and courage that he doesn't even know he has. When the bully starts picking on Tupelo, and Tom sees the hurt in her eyes and face, he puts his foot down and tells the bully that his words and actions don't matter and will not hurt he or Tupelo any more.

Q: Top five tips for raising kids:

1. Parents have to work as a team: I believe that this is the absolute number one tip for raising kids. The Parents must be in sync with each other and cover each other on household tasks. Especially when the child or children are one to three years old. The household tasks like doing the laundry, the dishes, emptying the trash, balancing the checkbook and paying the bills can be overwhelming so those tasks must be divided up and the parents have to WORK at being good teammates.

2. Make time for yourself. Whether it's going to a movie by yourself or just walking around the mall or going to a athletic event, couples need to do some stuff to get them out of the house for a short amount of time.

3. Schedule at least one date night a month. While it helps to recharge one's batteries doing something solo, couple's should make time once a month to get out and see a movie or have dinner or simply get out of the house and be together at least once a month.

4. Be cost and money concious. Everyone wants to make their kids happy but the $50 or $75 that is spent on a holiday gift or outfit that will be thrown in the closet never to see the light of day could be better used by being put in the bank or towards a college education fund. When I say money concious I mean that the husband and wife should put off luxury purchases and similar purchases like new furniture, drapes a better car etc. in lieu of saving money for the childs education.

5. Keep things "even" between the husband and wife's families. What I mean is that if you have to make two Thanksgiving stops, do it. If the wife's mother is watching the kids one night, ask the husband's mother to watch them the next time. Keeping both families on an even keel will do wonders for the husband and wife in their relationship and won't cause any friction with their families. If one side is being too agressive or bossy, it is the husband or wife's obligation to tell them to back off, it's for the greater good of THEIR marriage/relationship and in the children's interst to keep things as even as possible between the families.

Q: Where can we find out about your books and website?

I have a website, http://www.howardshapiro.net and my books are both available on Amazon.com. Also, copies can be ordered directly from me and I will autograph each copy. Both books cost $8.95. For more information, please send an email to howard.shapiro@hotmail.com or go to http://www.howardshapiro.net

Q: Something people must know about you.

Just that I work really hard at the whole "business" or writing and marketing my books and that I love feedback from people who have read them. As Louis Ferdinand Celine said "when you write, you should put your skin on the table" and I truly believe this and want my books to make a difference to someone or help them in some way, even if it's just for a moment. That, and I also believe that we are all capable of greatness in all that we do and we should strive for that.

Tips On Promoting Your Website

Consider using radio advertising for your site. You can start by recording an advertisement to play in late night slots, which are cheaper than commercials during the day. Contact local stations and as them for a price estimate for the cheapest times. Once you have developed a commercial that converts well, make an attempt to advertise in different time slots.

Participate in some sort of group give away event. These usually take place right before Holidays, such as Christmas. If you don't see any being formed, you may want to contact other people in your niche to see if they are interested in pooling products to create a massive giveaway, so that you can all can some benefit while giving a big present to your current and future customers.

Do not always rely on Internet-based methods of promoting your website. While they're more comfortable and consistent with your everyday promotional methods, they wont always be more effective than other forms of media, especially since there is less website competition in other forms of media.

Consider advertising your newsletter through co-reg or co-registration programs. These registration programs will add you as a box someone can check off when they are registering for a different newsletter. In many cases, you can purchase double opt-in leads for your newsletter for as little as 50 cents using these programs.

Don't forget to have time for other people when marketing your product or service. Your best allies will always be those people with whom you have the closest relationships. So start making friends within your niche and in industries related to your niche. Be genuine, sincere, and giving and expect nothing in return.

Find a person who has an interest in your business's niche. Offer weekly compensation for posting useful comments on blogs and including a signature file that points back to your website. Not only will this improve your search engine rankings, but it will also drive traffic to your site especially if the comments are on target and useful.

Create an affiliate program and find partners to help promote your product. One easy way to setup and administer an affiliate program is through Clickbank, which handles all of the checks and data recording for you. Other excellent affiliate program services include Sale Flurry, and 2 Check Out.

Consider purchasing some form of cost per action advertising. This form of advertising only charges you when someone takes a specific action, such as opting-in or purchasing a product from your sales page. This is one of the better forms of advertising, since it virtually guarantees a return on your investment.

Steps To Prevent Dvt Or Economy Class Syndrome On A Long Haul Flight

There are simple safety precautions to be taken during long haul air travel.

1. Avoid sleeping pills before or during the flight

2. Avoid long periods of sleep during the flight

3. Do seat exercises, such as ankle rolls and toe pointing. Exercise the calf, and thigh muscles by contracting and relaxing them, as well as rotating the ankles!!

4. Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration

5. Get up and move about periodically, but at least every hour.

6. Limit carry on luggage so there is plenty of leg room

7. Obtain a seat with as much leg room as possible, such as in the first class cabin, on an aisle, or in back of a bulkhead

8. Talk with your doctor about taking aspirin for its blood-thinning properties. An aspirin tablet can be taken unless you are under 16, or have a history of gastric ulcers, high blood pressure, or a history of sensitivity to aspirin

9. Walk around the airport before and between flights.

10. Wear loose, comfortable clothing for all air travel.

11. Alcohol should be taken in moderation

12. A combination of two glasses of red wine, aspirin and a lot of soft drinks is a perfectly acceptable way to stay healthy as well as helping a long air travel journey to pass!!

IF YOU HAVE A HISTORY OF THROMBOSIS wearing compression stockings is an essential precaution.

How do Gradient Compression Socks and Stockings help prevent dvt during air travel?

Gradient compression stockings help prevent the veins in your legs from becoming over filled with blood (congested).

Veins that are congested with blood make your legs feel heavy.

They may ache and fatigue easily.

These stockings act to prevent leg swelling by counteracting pressures inside the leg and promoting blood flow back to the heart rather than allowing blood to pool in the legs.

Compression squeezes the legs. Gradient compression hosiery (often called elastic stockings) are recommended to control leg swelling and leg discomfort and to prevent skin changes.

What is "Gradient Compression?"

Socks and stockings that are made tightest at the ankle and gradually decrease in tightness as they go up the leg are called gradient stockings.

Please note it is now possible to be screened to identify if genetically you have an increased chance of a dvt.

For example a man having hormonal treatment for cancer of the prostate and has a genetically identifiable clotting factor problem has a dramatically increased chance of developing a dvt.

The same would hold true for a lady taking HRT with the same genetic profile.

If you are anxious about your susceptibility to dvt during air travel then you can get yourself screened

The Overlooked Weakness Of Offshore Corporations, Foundations & Trusts

Forget everything you think you know about keeping your holdings anonymous using offshore banking, limited liability companies (LLCs), international business corporations (IBCs), trusts, foundations or non-profit companies.

Thats a bold statement. But its a very different world today than when most of these constructs were developed. Or when the books were written that popularized their use for privacy-seekers.

There was a time when a holding company or well-formed trust in an offshore jurisdiction, perhaps set up by a trusted intermediary, could assure you and your finances a good degree of privacy. But those days are over. New know-your-customer rules are making the use of traditional anonymous companies and trusts almost impossible. And improved information sharing now allows financial authorities to authenticate beneficiaries of LLCs or IBCs more effectively than ever before, and obtain their details with relatively simple requests.

What are trusts, IBCs and foundations?

An IBC is a corporation, a legal entity entitled to do business around the world in a given name. The names of the board of directors and beneficiaries of the business may not be publicized, but there is at least a cursory public record from the incorporation documents. Common to all IBCs are the dedication to business use outside the incorporating jurisdiction, rapid formation, secrecy, broad powers, low cost, low to zero taxation and minimal filing and reporting requirements. An increasing number of offshore jurisdictions are permitting the use of nominee shareholders, directors and officers.

A trust is a legal entity that can hold property or assets for the benefit of a specific person, group of people or organization known as the beneficiary (beneficiaries). When a trust is established, an individual or corporate entity is designated to oversee or manage the assets in the trust. This individual or entity is called a trustee. A trustee can be a professional with financial knowledge, a relative or loyal friend or a corporation. There are pluses and minuses to each type of trustee. An individual trustee may provide a more personal touch, but may die or move away. A corporate trustee may be less personal but provides experience, investment skills, permanence and impartiality. More than one trustee can be named by the grantor if he or she wishes.

A foundation, and many non-profits, are formed as a sort of a private trust. A popular type is a so-called Liechtenstein Anstalt, which has been traditionally used primarily to conceal the true owners name from tax authorities. All instructions regarding asset management and withdrawals must come from the Anstalts board of directors, often a firm of lawyers. These lawyers, usually with two signatures, are the only ones empowered by power of attorney to give orders to a bank that controls the trusts account(s).

The problem in a nutshell: identification of beneficiary

No matter how oblique and discreet the provider of your front company or trust, a name, and often a passport now, always needs to be associated with the structure; at some point, someone perhaps you, perhaps a nominee director, perhaps the secretary, perhaps even your registered agent needs to identify themselves as the beneficiary of any bank account associated with the company or trust. Unless youre willing to offer identification that is not legitimately yours, it's highly likely that you, or someone else who actually knows your real identity, will be connected to the account if someone sufficiently motivated were to seek the beneficiary of your corporate or trust holdings. And that's bad, even if the person who is exposed is a lawyer, supposedly protected from having to identify their clients.

What do we mean? Say your favored privacy consultant refers you to their lawyer colleague, described as extremely discreet; Id trust him with my life. This colleague is to set up an IBC on your behalf in the Cayman Islands. The lawyer offers to act as your registered agent and/or power of attorney. He requires a copy of your passport (usually notarized, if not apostilled see our article Whats an apostille, and why is it important?) and promises to retain it in confidentiality. And he does, until, two years later, he gets a knock on his door from authorities interested in your account. A lawyers client privilege is easily violated if a matter is criminal, or even perceived to be criminal.

Whats the alternative? If you still opt to create an LLC, IBC or trust and name the beneficiary in another name than yours, you could technically use identification that isnt legitimately yours. Your picture would need to appear on the ID, so as to be able to authenticate your image if you needed to show up at a bank to claim your funds. Now, in the best case, and things go well, you run the risk of not being able to access your holdings at some point in the future when your camouflage identification expires if youre unable to produce a new set when required to identify yourself by the bank. In the worst case, the bank may learn your identification is falsified and flag your accounts to be frozen once theyve amassed generous balances. The bank, and therefore any agency pursuing you, also then has a picture of you of file from your ID, a picture that is likely your true likeness. Not to mention other identifying data which could incriminate you, such as the IP addresses, and therefore the locations, of computers youve used to access their online banking systems.

How could a bank learn your identification is false? Financial institutions, even overseas, are becoming increasingly connected via technology, and many are now able to do realtime database validation of passport and drivers license numbers from many countries. Read our article What you need to know about camouflage identification for details.

Who needs to worry about this?

Always remember that magnitude of investigative resources that will be brought to bear in a pursuit will be directly proportional to the magnitude of the perceived offense. Would authorities really go through a complicated multinational effort, chasing down the beneficiary of a given company, trust or foundation for someone secreting away only a relatively small amount of money, perhaps to minimize taxes? Probably not.

Would they expend more effort in tracking down and stopping the beneficiary of criminal activity? If the sums were in the low millions of dollars and the chances of success high enough, perhaps.

Would they pull out all the stops if they believed significant criminal activity were involved, with proceeds in the tens of millions of dollars, or if they remotely suspected a connection with terrorism? Most definitely.

Why are IBCs and LLCs still being promoted?

Why do many offshore service providers and asset management advisors still advocate the use of companies and trusts for securing assets? Because theres an immense industry around the world that makes a huge amount of money processing the paperwork to set them up. And they have dozens of years or more of momentum in the marketing of their services. Their effectiveness at truly assuring you anonymity is not really the concern of the clerk or legal professional involved. When youre pursued and their records are subpoenaed, they will oblige, and they know it. And now you know it, too.

Spruce Up Your Scooter

Scooters are the most common form of two wheelers and are a safe mode of conveyance for those who cannot afford the luxury of four wheelers. So what is it about the scooters that make them so desirable over their other counter parts? Well, technological advancements these days have been successful in converting a simple scooter to a glorified two- wheeler. Not to forget, the various add-ons and upgrades that have elevated the position of scooters to a far more respectable level.

The scooter world has undergone a major evolution and this has resulted in the origination of motor scooters, electric scooters, mobility scooters and so on. The upgrades available for the scooters mentioned above are specific to each scooter and may be available with the manufacturer or other retailers that he might suggest. Arm-rests, cushions, baskets are some add-ons that can greatly increase the appeal of scooters while motors, engines, tyres and brakes are those accessories which can enhance its functionality and performance.

However it is always recommended that you buy your scooter from a reputed dealer and ensure that all its accessories are covered by a warranty. This ensures that if the scooter parts suffer any wear and tear during the usage they can be easily replaced without you having to spend a fat sum on them. Moreover buying accessories from a genuine dealer will also guard you against buying duplicate parts, which are rampant all over the market at cheaper prices.

Before buying any upgrades for your scooter always mention your model number to the dealer so that he is able to supply you with only those parts that will be compatible with your scooter. Buying mismatched parts would mean a wasteful expenditure since some dealers adhere to very strict exchange policies and dont readily want to exchange the parts that have once been sold.

To ensure that all your scooter parts and accessories are in a good condition remember to get them serviced at regular intervals. This will be helpful in bringing to your notice those parts that need to be immediately replaced.

So if you already own a scooter and are thinking of all the ways and means to spruce it up, then go the stores to find out about the latest add-ons and accessories that can add a touch of class to your possession.

A Contract Set in Stone

The law on obligations and contracts is simple. It states that once all the essential and formal requisites of a contract have been complied with, then such agreement or covenant is considered as law between the parties. Further, no signatory to such a pact may be absolved from the performance of his or her obligation unless the interest of justice and fair play requires.

To put it more blatantly, a contract is an agreement entered into by two or more parties having the ample personality, capacity, and eligibility to contract. Thus, upon finding that the subject of such agreement is well within the confines set forth by our laws, and public policy, then any provision, obligation, or duty incumbent upon any party to perform must be complied with in good faith. If a partys act runs counter to any of said lawful provision, then a cause of action for breach of contract is available to the other party.

Breach of Contract is a serious malfeasance; it is as though not complying with a rule of law set forth, the only difference is that it is a law brought about by the agreement of the parties and the one that governs only parties thereto. Notwithstanding the same, non-compliance of any provision thereof would actually lead to causes of action ranging from restitution and reparation to payment of damages caused by non-performance.

The rule on proximity of contracts has been applied in breach of contract cases to the letter. This doctrine provides that only those who are signatories to a contract and their successors in interest are liable for any penalty brought about by the non-performance of the obligation. Consequently, the proximity of contracts also provides that only a signatory to the contract or any successor in interest have the ample right to file any claim against another party for non-compliance of his or her obligation. Any third party, who would like his or her right be promote cannot act on the basis of a contract to which he or she is not a party. His or her remedy lies on some other provision of law but not the contract for which he or she was in no way part.

Breach of Contract has several repercussions. Not only would the person be liable civilly for all the damages brought about by non-performance of an obligation, this may also lead to some other effects to include, rescission of the contract, restitution of what has been given by the party who complied with his obligation, or both, and in the said instance damages would also concur.

A Smoothie a Day Keeps The Doctor Away?

There is a lot of press about the need for people to eat 5 portions of fruit or vegetables a day as part of a healthy diet. It is hoped that this will increase the amount of dietary fibre, vitamins and antioxidants in the body. Despite the adverts many people struggle to eat 1 piece of fresh fruit let alone 5 a day. Could the answer to consuming more fruit be in the humble smoothie ? And are smoothies necessarily good for you ?

First up, there are different types of smoothies.

A smoothie that is comprised of nothing but fruit is likely to be good for you and come close to hitting the 5 fruit a day mark. Smoothies of this sort generally include a fruit that can add a thick consistency to the drink. In this case the good old banana takes up the challenge. A banana can add thickness to the drink and a creamy taste and texture. They are also a good source of Potassium.Using bananas as a base fruit, a smoothie practitioner can experiment with nearly any type and amount of fruit imaginable. For example

Take a handful of any fresh berry fruit strawberry or raspberry
Some freshly squeezed orange juice
A couple of bananas

Cut the bananas in to smaller chunks or slices and blend all the ingredients until the mixture is a smooth, thick consistency. Pour into a glass and knock it back. Wonderful and so simple! Of course half the fun is experimenting with the quantities and types of ingredients to get your own special recipe. Why not add fresh carrot juice in place of the berries ?

If the all-fruit smoothies are the halo wearing, harp playing angels hovering above your right shoulder then the guilt inducing, trident poking devils on your left shoulder are undoubtedly the smoothies that use dairy products.

I know, I know they taste pretty darn good. A huge dollop of extra creamy ice cream, a generous dash of milk and some kind of fruit. Blend it up and you have a delicious drink.

The classic is the banana smoothie, one banana, a dash of milk and your favorite vanilla ice cream. Blend it all together and serve. Add a bit of honey or syrup if you want it a bit sweeter.

As much as a drink like this tastes great you must remember that it is probably not that good for you. In fact, smoothies that incorporate cream, ice cream , milk, honey and yogurt are not really that good for you and should be taken in moderation.

Conclusion

An all-fruit smoothie is a great way to start the day and makes it easier to have 5 pieces of fruit a day. The dairy based smoothies are best seen as a treat or indulgence and should be taken in moderation.

Home Remodelling Loan And Checklist Before Picking A Home Remodelling Loan

On one weekend, a Saturday in particular, I decided to attend a seminar on home remodelling. I Usually prefer to call it home renovation. It was basically for the elderly people.

Am not in the elderly bracket but I decided to attend anyway because I was feeling a bit lonely and wanted to be occupied. On looking around the room, I saw that most people were in my age group.

Think it is because they have to meet most of the cost for refinancing the renovation of the home of their old ones.

This seminar turned out to be good to me and at the end I was convinced it was a good take.

In this seminar, it was revealed that research so far shows this:

It will probably cost anywhere from $100,000 to $150,000 to do a good renovation of a house for the elderly. This seems a staggering amount, until you consider that it would cost them from $3,000 to $5,000 per month if they were to rent a unit in a retirement facility in a location where they might not be as happy. Looking at it from that point of view, in four years or less, they would have spent the money anyway, and at least making home improvements allows them to continue to live in the same location and keep their asset.

The biggest challenge many older adults face when renovating their homes is how to pay for them. Many are on fixed incomes with few resources. Their property may have increased in value, but they are cash-poor.

During this seminar, a flyer was distributed that provided a telephone number for the city and county Elderly Affairs Division Rehabilitation Loan Program. Many cities have similar funds available as a means to assist individuals to stay in their own homes, rather than move to more costly facilities.

I learnt that the loan program was available to a person or family requiring home modifications, based on a health or safety need. The home loan program required that an application be submitted with information about the number of persons living in the household and their combined annual income. This information was then used to determine the interest rate for the loan. For example, for combined incomes of less than $41,000 or so, the interest rate was 2 percent; for less than $52,000, 4 percent; and so on.

Another thing I learnt is that you can also have an option, which is that of a reverse mortgage. A reverse mortgage is a special type of home loan that lets a homeowner convert a portion of the equity in his or her own home into cash. The equity built up over years of home mortgage payments can be paid to the owner, but unlike traditional home equity loans or second mortgages, no repayment is required until the borrower no longer uses the home as the principal residence.

Reverse mortgages are available through different lenders, as well as HUD. There are some property restrictions, but single-family homes, two-to-four-unit properties, condominium units, townhouses, and some manufactured homes are eligible. Generally, the greater the value of the home, the older the owners, the lower the interest rates, and the more one can borrow. This is good news right now, with interest rates so low, and it is an opportunity for your patients who have a higher annual income that disqualifies them from other programs. And if they live in an area of the country where land or home values are traditionally higher, such as Hawaii or New York, it may be the best option available for refinancing.

Given the sheer amount you have to invest or borrow, here is a checklist before you decide on any renovation project.

Consider the following before you decide how to finance your home improvement project:

-Talk to lenders about your options.

- Know that lenders are concerned about income, debts, credit history and property value.

-Consider a secured loan when you want to borrow more money, get a lower interest rate or reduce taxes.

-Refinance an existing loan if you have enough equity and if the rates are two points lower now than when you initially borrowed the money.

-Use a home equity line of credit that is secured by your home so youre your interest is tax deductible.

-Take out a home equity loan to get fixed rates and payments.

-Consider a homeowner loan that is secured by your property. Use a value added loan when the improvement you make will have a substantial impact on the market value of your home.

-Do your research before using contractor financing.

Good Luck

Noise In Air Purifiers

The sale of air purifiers across the United States has skyrocketed over the past few years. With research showing that indoor air pollution is 2 to 10 times more than outdoor pollution, there are valid reasons for people to get worried. The only option they now have to deal with the pollution is to install air purifiers in their homes.

Air purifiers are mainly of two variants the ionic air purifier and the HEPA air purifier. The technology in the two are different and so is the method they work. An ionic air purifier just draws the neutrally charged particulates to the charged plates inside the purifier. This technology ensures that there is little or no sound during the cleansing process.

A HEPA air purifier works on a completely different principle where a filter is used to collect pollutants from the air. To do so a fan revolves at high speed to draw in the air form the room and the pollutants floating in the air gets deposited on the filter. The HEPA filters are effective for particulates as small as 0.3 microns. It would make sense here to pint out that the width of human hair is about 100 microns.

However there is a drawback to the HEPA air purifier. While at work the HEPA ones actually produce some sound which can be annoying for many. The sound is produced because of the fan inside revolving at high speed. While for some it would not be too much of a bother, and some even may actually like the white noise produced, there would be individuals who will hate a constant buzzing sound.

When you are buying an air purifier you expecting some clean air, and not a gadget which produces inconsistent noise. You can obviously do something to tackle this problem. When we buy air purifiers we take a note of our room size. Now, if we buy a purifier which just has the capacity to clean our room then we must have it working to its utmost. This means that fan will always be revolving at the highest speed. The result would be the noise.

However, if we take a purifier with the capacity of cleaning a 800 square feet room for a room of size 200 square feet, then we can always have the fan inside the purifier work at low or medium levels. This will result in less noise. The purifier, all of a sudden will sound quieter. The only thing that would be of concern is the size of the purifier might be too big for the room.

7 Reasons To Run Background Checks

1. Dating: The dating world has become a lot different than when our parents and grandparents were going to a drive-in movie. Online dating has become very popular in the 21st century. There have been many people who have found the love of there life. There have also been instances of people who have met their worst nightmare.

You should do a background check on anyone you are considering dating if you haven't known them very long, expecially if you met them online. Ask yourself these questions: "Are they married?", "Have they been convicted of a sex crime?", "Do they have a criminal history of any kind?". These are all things you should know before you go on that first date. Knowing these things could save your life and/or your money.

2. Child Support: Does your ex-husband or wife owe you child support but no one seems to be doing enough to find him or her? Did you know that you can find this person yourself?

Well you can, and it's not difficult. You can usually find the information you are seeking within minutes.

3. Employees: Finding good employees nowadays can be difficult at best. Running background checks on employees is a big plus for you. I mean do you really want someone who was caught steeling at his last job? Or someone with a temper who is capable of an assault on you or your other employees? Find out all this information before you hire someone.

4. Child Care: This one is very important. Our children are our lives and no one wants to intentionally put their child in jeopardy. A background check should be run on anyone who is alone with your child. Make sure your little one is safe when you can't be there. And it's very easy to do.

5. Beneficiaries or heirs: There is a lot of unclaimed money out there simply because the heir can't be found. Maybe you are one. Maybe there is other money that you are owed. Find out now and reap the benefits.

6. Your neighbors: Would you like to know who your neighbors really are? A great number of crimes have been committed by the victim's neighbor. How well do you really know yours?

7. Missing people: Do you know someone who has been missing?

They could be in jail. You can search jail records nationwide in minutes.

Take A Look at Car Video Systems

Do you find yourself on the road a lot? Do you go on those long road trips to go camping or visiting faraway relatives with your family? Long trips in your own car can really be boring and troublesome, especially if you travel with your family.

Children, especially young ones, can be really noisy and unruly if they become bored during a long trip. Trips like this can also endanger your family as it can be hard to concentrate on the road if your children are making that awful racket. Why dont you install a car video system in your vehicle to make your car trips much more enjoyable?

Car video systems come standard on newer vehicles like many other things these days. Anything from GPS to CD changers can be enjoyed right off the bat if you purchase an high-end vehicle. But if you dont have enough savings to buy a pricey vehicle, it would be cheaper to install it on the car you have right now.

I can understand if youre hesitant to install car video systems in your car. You might think that it probably will cost a lot. Well Its not as expensive as you might think. A year ago when I decided to buy a minivan, I also looked into car video systems available. I was thinking that it would really useful on a family oriented vehicle like a minivan. Too my surprise I found out that it only cost an additional two grand to have it installed in my car. Though it may still sound expensive its still worth the cost if car video systems help you survive those long and grueling road trips.

You can get a TV screen and DVD player when you invest in car video systems. I had no regrets with my decision to install one in my car. It really made a difference to those long road trips that I have to do ever year. I can now focus on the road without worrying about keeping the kids occupied. No more complains and crying from the backseats. My young ones eyes are focused on the cartoon characters doing whatever they do on the screen. Car video systems have really made long trips a lot more enjoyable for me and my family. We now look forward to more of these trips knowing fully that my family are all at ease inside the car.

Care in the Form of Medicine

History standing as a witness shows that man has one of the most potent, if not the most potent immune system. So potent in fact, that it has its inherent means to adapt to a changing environment. Man has been in existence for as long as we know, and despite the changes in weather, and the rise and eventual fall of different fatal, death-causing illnesses still man had find its way to survive.

Yet despite this seeming invulnerability, a human being is still a mortal, which causes him to bleed, age, and eventually die. With the advent of new technology and medicine though, the inevitable effects of age and diseases have been prolonged if not totally eradicated. Medicines in our present time are already viewed as a supplement for a healthy living. It even is already at a point where some people are overly dependent on it, making it as the sole reason why they are even surviving and thriving.

The importance of medicine cannot be overly emphasized. The irony is that, with the increase dependence on it, the higher the cost for it to be obtained is the consequent result. Medicines particularly those which serve as a cure for a fatal or dragging condition, or those that would in one way or another relieve one from striking pain and inconvenient condition are often the subject of this increase in value. Of course, the overly dependent individual has no choice but to purchase these medicines since having these medicines spell the difference between having a longer life or finding their eventual death.

Our welfare government understands this predicament, hence, it has adopted a way of subsidizing as much as possible the cost of these essential medicines. The Medicare System which to the present time is a brainchild of the Social Security Administration has helped a lot in answering these brewing problems. With Medicare, the cost of medicines have been cut to half or even more, depending on the brand of drug, and what the disease it tries to cure. The Medicare Program has brought a system of healing accessible to man, it has now made a somewhat shaken specie have a different view on survival. Who knows, the Medicare system might even lead to prolonged living, at looking at man ages 80 and above grazing our streets would be a common sight.

Beginner's Guide to Spread Betting

In the past it was only City whizz kids with instant access to real time market information that indulged in spread betting on companies and markets. But like contracts for differences (CFDs), the popularity of spread betting has exploded, particularly with the advent of the internet.

That said, spread betting is a high-risk means of punting on the stock market.

And be warned: the losses are horrendous if you get it badly wrong. With traditional fixed odds betting you might wander into a bookmakers and place a wager and - if your luck is anything like mine - you will lose your stake money.

Spread betting is completely different animal. Win and the upside is potentially unlimited. Get it wrong and you're not so much left chasing your losses, rather they end up chasing you.

But there is also much to commend it. Buying shares by traditional means is a one-way bet. You are wagering on a share price rise. Spread betting allows you bet against an individual share, or indeed the entire market - as well as buy into its upside.

And it allows you to wager on all manner of markets and events - from the gyrations of the FTSE 100 right through to the outcome of a cricket match.

Enough of the theory, here's how it works

A spread better such as IG Index will quote you two prices in much the same way as an equity market maker would - giving you a bid and offer price.

One of the favourite bets is a punt on the movement of the Footsie (FTSE 100 Index).

We are offered a spread of 5,700-5,705. So what exactly does that mean? Well, simple really.

If you think the Footsie is likely go above 5,705 then you would instruct the broker you wanted to buy. And if you expected it to dip below 5,700 then you would instruct the broker to sell.

Clear?

Well, let's say for the sake of argument, we believe the market will end the day below 5,700 - perhaps we think after the recent good run there will be a bout of profit taking. So we tell our bookmaker to sell. In fact we are ultra confident and stake 50 for every point the the Footsie falls below 5,700.

The spread betting firm will fix a price that mirrors the market movement. So at midday the spread has moved to 5,675-5,680, which means the Footsie has fallen.

Fearing a revival we want to take our profits on the bet. So exactly do we do that? Well, we would then ask the broker to buy.

The new buy price as we can see is 5,680. We know we have won the wager with the spread betting company. But just how much have we made? All we need to know is the points difference between price at which we sold the Footsie and point at which we bought to close off our position.

The maths is reasonably simple. 6,700 minus 6,680, which gives us a 20 point difference. And remember, we were very confident in our ability to predict the movement of the Footsie so we staked 50 a point.

That gives us tidy 1,000 profit. Not bad for a morning's work. And remember, this is a bet with a bookmaker so there is no capital gains tax, or stamp duty. Isn't that just dandy?

Well let's see what happens when it all goes horrendously wrong. Let's take our bet on the Footsie.

We won't change much, save that we woke up and thought, well, the Footsie is on a roll and instead of selling, we bought.

Remember the spread we were quoted was 5,700-5,705. We bought at 5,705. So anything above that level is clear profit. And we were, in this alternate existence, if anything even more bullish, so we staked 100 a point.

Rash, I would say as this is the first time we have ever made a spread bet. But instead of roaring ahead, the Footsie starts dropping and at midday, chastened by our stupidity we decide to cut our loses and close the position.

Remember the midday spread was 5,675-5,680. To close off we need to sell and have to do so at 5,675. To calculate the losses we take the difference between price at which we bought and the price at which we sold.

So that gives is 6,705 minus 5,675 a difference of 30 points. Now remember how rash we were? We staked 100 a point, giving us losses of 3,000. For the mega-rich footballers of the Premiership that is probably less than a day's wages.

But for most it equates to probably close to two-months' net salary. The moral of this story? Well, obviously, don't bet what you can't afford.

But, I would say if you are going to indulge in something as risky and complicated as spread betting ensure that you know the risks involved. Study as much as you can around the system. Accept a stop-loss (which limits the downside) if it is offered.

The spread betting companies are not evil, they take every opportunity to educate and spell out the potential pitfalls. If they offer you coaching, accept it. Above all don't bet until you understand all the risks involved.

Traveling By Flight

Traveling by flight is very exciting, within the States and almost every where. Most people travel by flights within the states because of the fact, which all the sub- states are all scattered and situated far off from each other and to travel by road can take a very long time.

Flights are quicker mode of transport whether it is traveling within the country or internationally. Many people have a fear of flying. They fear that there will be turbulence or worse, a plane crash. Statistics show that you are less likely to be involved in a plane accident. You are more likely to be a victim of a railway or an automobile accident.

Prices for the flights too vary from season to season, there are times when the cost of the ticket for the flight is shocking and there are times when the ticket for the flights are cheaper beyond our belief.

There are many different airlines too and therefore prices also differ as per the airlines. People travel by flight to relax, they dont have to drive or waste their energy, but it is just a matter of sitting there for couple of hours or hours together depending on the destination without having to worry about food too.

There are various flight companies that also offer vacation packages for those planning to go overseas for holidays. The flight companies take care of every minute detail of their travel, which is a plus point if going for vacations.

There are also certain deals that come and go through out the year depending on the time of the year. If it is seasonal there are deals during those times but a bit expensive then the other times, due to the reason being that, most of them travel during seasonal times and also because of the holidays.

Other positives of traveling by flight are, people pay for travel insurance and health insurance, and mostly it is included in the packages, which helps them to basically enjoy their trip without worrying about a thing.

High security is provided while traveling by flight, so there is no worry of baggage being stolen or children getting lost.

To travel by flights it is recommendable to research on the best deals, checking on different airlines, finding appropriate packages, comparing the fares and then taking a decision in choosing a flight, so that there are no regrets for the amount of money that is put in.

Riding Over Obstacles On A Chopper

Riding over obstacles with a regular motorcycle is not usually a problem. The suspension and bike setup on most modern street motorcycles allows for a smooth transition over all but the largest obstacles.

Think about the recommended Motorcycle Safety Foundation procedure for crossing a 2x4 in the road or hitting a "pothole" that is 2" or so deep... you should try to cross at or near a 90-degree angle, stand up on the foot pegs to use your legs as shock absorbers, roll on the throttle a little to lighten the front-end as you cross the obstacle (and rolling off as you cross it to avoid throwing the obstacle up behind you), clear over the obstacle, and ride on.

With a chopper the procedure is slightly different. The greater than normal rake, extended front forks, far-forward controls, minimal (if any) rear shock travel, and low ground clearance requires more faith and strength and will take some practice to be able to complete the procedure safely. Of course, the best course of action is avoid obstacles completely (they say chopper riders are the most vigilant road surface scanners) but that just isn't realistic on today's roads.

My aching spine today tells me that I need more practice after hitting a pavement "bump" of approx. 2-3" yesterday on the highway.

The key to successfully crossing an obstacle on a chopper is having faith in the handlebars (and the strength in your arms/back) so you can pull yourself up off the seat enough to allow the rear tire to ride over the obstacle while keeping the bike under control.

It takes some practice... especially for the larger obstacles... and I would recommend you try it a few times on your motorcycle before you are on the highway going 65 MPH and notice the pavement squished up 3" across the lane right in front of you!

Practice obstacle clearance no matter what you ride and ride safe! Ron

Dish Network Satellite TV Shopper Guides

For the past few years, we have seen an explosion of people choosing Dish Network over cable TV. Dish Network had such a high level of success in marketing their product and it had now become a popular household name in United States. It is no surprise that we are seeing mounting number of Dish Network satellite dish in our neighborhood.

However, despite the success of Dish Network marketing campaign, there are still a lot of confusing satellite TV shoppers wandering around Internet and looking for more consumer info on Dish Network deals. To help up on the situation, here are the answers for some common questions raised among Dish Network shoppers.

Free Dish Network deals - are they for real?

Yes, Dish Network free deals are for real. But do not misunderstand that Dish Network services are for free totally. You still need to pay for your Dish Network TV service fee monthly. What the free deal means is that you get free Dish Network satellite TV system (aka, satellite signal decoder, satellite dish, and decoder remote control).

The free Dish Network deals do come with conditions. To qualify for the free deals, you must be a first time customer for Dish Network and you must be willing to commit a one-year subscribe contracts with the Dish Network dealers.

You might wonder why credit card info is needed during ordering Dish Network since it's a free deals.

The credit card info is needed because of Dish Network dealers need to charge $49.99 on the card as up front deposits. As it is a free deal, Dish Network will then credit back the deposit money into your first month bill thus the whole start-up process requires zero dollar from your pocket.

DirecTV or Dish Network?

Without a surprise, satellite TV shoppers are always comparing the deals offered by Dish Network and DirecTV. Interestingly, the satellite system services offered by both DirecTV and Dish Network are practically the same. Both Dish Network and DirecTV offer more than 200 program channels, integrated digital video recording (DVR) capabilities, and high definition TV (HDTV) capabilities, stunning picture and sound quality and award-winning 24-hour customer service departments. What separate these two main satellites broadcaster is that DirecTV monthly subscription fees are slightly higher but with more sports (football!) coverage; while Dish Network packages are basically cheaper and they covers more on International programming channels.

The question of Dish Network or DirecTV has no fix answer. Dish Network might be the best for some family while for others, DirecTV is the best. Our best advice is that satellite TV shoppers should get the satellite TV that suits you the best. If you are willing to pay more for the football live, go for DirecTV; If you wish to save more on your monthly budget and watch more Internation channels, get Dish Network.

Who should I order my Dish Network from?

The quality of your Dish Network deals depends highly on the dealer you take order with. Dish Network deals can be a saving bargain if you get a good dealer but in the same time it might be a nightmare if you get into a wrong dealer.

Unfortunately, with any hot product on the Internet come the scammers. As shopper, it is important to know that not all Dish Network dealer's offers are the same. Thus review and study on more than one Dish Network dealers is necessary. Different Dish Network dealers offer totally different promotion sometimes and to assure you get the best Dish Network deals, you must get a reputable dealer.

When considering the dealer quality, things to be considered are like the dealer's customer feedback (any bad comments?), authorization (is the dealer authorized by Dish Network?), any hidden fees (make sure price listed is net price), reliable (in business for long enough?), any customer support (live call? Online support?), any cash back policy, and so on.

It is easy to differentiate a good dealer and a bad one when you can unmask their sugar-coated promotion flyers. Some detail reviews of Dish Network dealers can be found at here:

Are Hidden Cameras Watching You Right Now

I was enjoying a meal with my wife the other day at a local restaurant. After we ate, we decided to sit at the bar and have a drink while watching the local band play a few numbers. As I looked around at the small crowd of people, I couldnt help but wonder if there were any hidden surveillance cameras in the bar. (Being in the hidden camera industry, I tend to be a little paranoid about being watched)

But this time my paranoia was justified. As I glanced over at the display of liquor bottles on the shelf, there it was, a dark bottle of wine with a small hole not much bigger than a pencil eraser right in the side of the bottle.

I leaned forward and gave a little smile, then I waved, and then I stuck my tongue out at the bottle. After a few minutes of my peculiar behavior, the manager came over to ask me if I was O.K. When I explained that I was just showing off for the camera, he seemed clearly surprised that I knew it was there. When I explained what I did for a living, he gave me a perceptive nod of his head and asked if I would please not tell anyone else about the hidden camera. Its there for security purposes he said just to keep an eye on things. I agreed not to let his secret out, and the free drinks he gave to my wife, and me sealed the deal. I wasnt going to say anything.

While it was easy to spot cameras twenty or thirty years ago due to their large size, this has become increasingly difficult in recent years. Cameras have become much smaller and consume a fraction of the power that they did just a few years ago. Due to this, hidden cameras can be installed in nearly any place you can imagine.

Hidden cameras are easy to use, readily available, and the dropping prices are making them very affordable. In fact hidden cameras can be purchased, installed and operated even by the average citizen these days.

Hidden cameras are very easy to hide due to the fact that the basic unit is generally nothing more than a CCD (Charge Coupled Device) board camera. A board camera is a camera fully contained on a single circuit board including camera optics and all the electronics needed for generating the video signal. Board cameras range in size but on the average they are approximately 1 X 1 inches, which makes them very easy to hide in even the most inconspicuous places. Most of these board cameras only need an opening of about 1mm in their hiding places for complete room surveillance. From there, the video signal can be sent to the receiver and either watched in real time or recorded for later viewing, or both.

Another type of camera that has shown up more recently is based on CMOS technology. CMOS cameras are gaining ground with consumer products such as handheld devices, photo capable cell phones, and webcams.

Miniature CMOS cameras usually come as modules packaged in small plastic cases, and are about half the price of CCD cameras, less sensitive to electrical distortions and consume far less power. They can also be built much smaller than CCD cameras. CMOS cameras have disadvantages as well. CMOS cameras are not as light sensitive, which mean that the image quality is not as good under low light conditions.

Another disadvantage is the lower picture quality in general, as the individual pixels can be quite noisy. Technology is catching up with this issue though, and CMOS cameras are likely to supersede CCD cameras within the next few years.

Due to the small size of these imaging devices, they can be placed into compact everyday items such as alarm clocks, wall clocks, and even small kitchen appliances can house a hidden camera.

To make a long story short, miniature cameras are small, very small, and they can be hidden in more places than you could ever possibly imagine looking for them. So the next time youre out at a restaurant, or in a business meeting, or even at a friends house, look around and ask yourself, am I being watched? Or maybe just paranoid?

8 Simple Dating Profile Tips

A profile is somewhat personal, and there are really no absolutes on what you should or shouldn't say. However, there are certain things that will increase the odds that other people will notice you and be interested. Here are some quick tips on writing a profile that will get responses.

1. Post a photo

A picture is worth a thousand words. That is why profiles with pictures get far more responses, often 8 - 10 times more than a profile without a photo. You don't have to be the best looking person in the world - most of us aren't. But people will feel more comfortable approaching you if they have some idea of what you look like.

2. Have more than one photo

Generally, more photos are better than one. Show yourself in different environments, doing the things you enjoy. If you like hiking, include a photo of yourself at your favorite hiking trail. Try to avoid photos that show other people, especially people from your past relationships. The photos should be about you.

3. Smile

If you are at a party, you would probably be more inclined to talk to someone who smiles at you. The same is true for online dating. So smile!

4. Be positive

Negativity is a turnoff to most people. A profile is like an ad, so say positive things about yourself while remaining truthful. There are a lot of profiles out there that start with something like "I don't really believe in online dating but I figured I'll try it anyway..." Try to avoid this kind of approach. It makes you sound like you aren't interested in what you are doing.

5. Don't tell your life story

Nobody wants to read a whole novel about your life - at least not when they first meet you online. So keep the profile informative, but try not to get too carried away.

6. Be honest about what you are seeking

Being honest will help you attract a person who wants the same thing. So if you are looking for true love, then say so. On the other hand, if you are just looking for a friend, go ahead and state that as well.

7. Show who you are instead of just describing it

Instead of saying "I have a great sense of humor," why not make a joke in your profile and show it? Saying "I love to travel" is fine, but a better way to say that is to mention that you went to France last year and you are planning a trip to the Grand Canyon next summer.

8. Reread your profile, and check your spelling

Spelling and grammatical errors annoy some people, so why take the chance? It only takes a minute to reread what you wrote and run a spell check.

Kenya tour and vacation travel: Your Ultimate tourist Guide

Airport Nairobi

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) is approximately half an hours drive from Nairobi City centre. Taxis are readily available but establish the fare before getting into the vehicle as there are many drivers who will approach you for business. The JKI Airport is a busy hub for both the Kenyan tour and vacation travel and the East and horn of Africa region.

The state-controlled Kenatco taxis work on a fixed rate using reliable and clean vehicles. Other taxis tend to vary: some appear to be old wrecks and as they do not come under the control of the municipal councils, you may find they are not insured. Always check first. Most Kenya tourist hotels have their own minibus transport for your Kenyan tour, which can be arranged through reception.

Mombasa Airport

The new Moi International Airport on the Kenya coast is approximately 10 minutes from the city centre, although most of the Kenya tourist hotels are situated to the north and south coastal regions. Allow an extra half-an-hour to your journey to the south coast because of the Likoni ferry crossing. The traffic Jam at the ferry has been a pain to many travelers on their Kenyan tour, especially during departures. Most visitors on their Kenyan beach vacation prefer to arrive and depart from Moi International airport.

Important airport fees

For international departures there is an airport tax to pay of $20 and Kshs 200 for internal flights which is normally included in the price of your ticket. This is mandatory for either Kenya vacation and business travelers.

Kenya Car hire company

Most international car hire companies are represented in Kenya in addition to some of the enterprising locals. Some rates may vary on a daily or weekly basis depending on type of vehicle ranging from four wheel drives to small saloons. Vehicles travel on the left-hand side of the road-and most cars are right-hand drive. A current driving license with photograph is accepted for up to three months stay. Self-driven Four wheel cars are also on hire for the do-it yourselfer Kenyan beach, wildlife or safari vacationer.

Public transport in Kenya

City buses operate in Nairobi and Mombasa at reasonably low rates. However, avoid peak hours as most transport is crammed full. Fares are paid to the conductor.

Trains transport in Kenya

There is a rail service from Nairobi to Mombasa and Kisumu where first and second class accommodation is available. The train is especially a favourite of the 6-14 day Kenyan vacationer who wants to sample a lot of the country offering.

Kenya Communications and Postal Services

Post offices are identified by the words posta Kenya and mail posting boxes are red. Usually you can buy stamps at post offices, stationers, souvenir shops and hotels. Post office hours of business are from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday and from 9am until 12noon on Saturday at main post offices.

Telephone services in Kenya

Telkom Kenya provides advanced telecommunication services that include voice data, internet,

and multi media, whilst cellular mobile services are provided by Safaricom (0720/0721/0722/0723) and Kencell communications (0733,0734).

Faxes, telexes and emails can be sent from your hotel via the operator. International calls can sometimes be dialed direct or operator assisted by dialing 0195 or 0196. Telkom Kenya also runs a few international public assisted call offices in selected areas in major towns.

Public payphones are fully automated. Simply pick up the handset and follow the digitalized prompts on the screen to make your call. Card and coin phones are available. Phone cards of different denominations may be bought from Post Offices or international call offices in major town. You can also make use of hotel phones but the charges are usually 100% more. Local dialed calls cost a minimum of Kshs 5, so have plenty of change on your Kenyan vacation travel.

As from 4th July 2003, all Nairobi area codes changed so check if the number you are calling is still operational.

Kenyan Currency

Kenyas unit of currency is the shilling (Sh/s) (slang: Bob), written 1/-, 2/50 etc. Divided into 100 cents (c). There are copper coins of 50 c and 1/- and silver and copper coins of 5/-, 10/-, 20/- and 40/-. Bank notes are available in denominations of 5/-, 10/-, 20/-, 50/-, 100/-, 200/-, and 1000/-.

Currency restrictions

There are no restrictions on the movement of currency into or out of Kenya for currency transactions.

Banking Hours

Banks in Nairobi and other large towns open from 9am-3pm Monday to Friday and 9am-11a on the first and last Saturday of each month. 24 hr access to your account can be facilitated by ATMs country wide.

Banks in Mombasa and the coastal areas, open and close half an hour earlier. Some banks at the international airports open round the clock every day as do the new foreign exchange bureaux. This is to ensure that the Kenya Traveler accesses currency at point of arrival.

Credit cards accepted in Kenya

All the major international credit cards are accepted in Kenya and most ATMs can accept any international VISA and MASTERCARD credit cards.

Standard chartered banks computer network allows access to over 60 Moneylink ATMs situated at all its branches, major shopping malls, gas stations and other strategic locations countrywide. Holders of VISA cards can also link up to their home bank or credit card account through money link ATMs around the clock.

KCB have 55 visa and visa electron compliant ATMs available 24 hrs nationwide accepting international credit cards.

Travelers cheques in Kenya are also readily recognizable and accepted at most places.

Voltage

All regions in Kenya are supplied with 240 volts AC. Some safari, wildlife and beach lodges have independent power generators which may carry. The plug in use through out Kenya is of the three square pin, 13amp type.

Security in Kenya

As in other countries, it is always advisable for a traveler to hand in their passport, travelers cheques, excess money and any other valuables at hotel reception desks for placing in their safe for security. Alternatively, where available, you will find a safety deposit box in your hotel room.

It is a sensible precaution not to walk alone in isolated towns or beach areas, particularly after dark. Ask for advice from your hotel manager or tour representative if you are with a package holiday company.

Kenya Hotels Bill payment

Most Kenyan hotels expect vacation and business travelers to pay in convertible foreign currency such as US dollars. However, in some Kenyan tour lodges and hotels, tourists may have the option to pay in Kenya Shillings or credit card if this method is preferred.

Tipping

Tipping is not mandatory but not forbidden as in some other African countries. Tipping is entirely at your discretion and most hotels and restaurants include a 10% service charge to the bill.

Clean safe Water

Nairobi and Mombasa hotels are virtually 100% safe for drinking water for Kenyan vacationers. However, if in doubt, a variety of bottled water is available in most places. Most isolated lodges keep filtered water in jars or flasks which is a direct warning that tap water is not safe, even for brushing teeth.

Water Conservation

Shortage of water due to inadequate rainfall means that you should ensure that you try and conserve water as much as possible. Responsible travel calls for sustainable and conservative use of water and energy resources in your Kenyan tour.

Kenyan Visa requirements

Most incoming Kenya tourists whether for business or pleasure, now require a visa irrespective of nationality. Multiple and single entry visas are available. The single entry fee is US$ 50 (Correct at time of writing this article) or the equivalent in local currency and can be obtained upon arrival at the airport.

Visa applications can be made at any Kenya High Commission or Embassy prior to traveling. For more information contact your nearest Kenya High Commission or Kenya Embassy. Alternatively Visit Landmark Safaris website:

Tips for Photographing Wildlife

To capture those rare moments in the camera is an art and the trick to learn them is by practicing them and it is always better to practice on your cats and on birds in my yard or local parks and the with that basic training you are armed with the essential knowledge of photography!

I can provide you with some tips that would come handy for you to get the best shots of animals and birds in the wild.

Start by targeting moving targets that would make you respond efficiently to those dramatic photographs with a sense of speed.

Always keep your camera handy and set up for unexpected encounters and also replace camera batteries from time to time and make sure that you have plenty of film or memory.

Its always better to have at least homework done in the sense that you should be aware of what kinds of animals and birds are commonly found there. This would be helpful for you to know where to look to find them and what kinds of behavior to expect.

Apply common sense and dont do anything that your action startles or threatens the animal. Learn to walk and move quietly and practice freezing your position so that your presence is not known to them.

Be vigilant of everything around you using all your senses and with little practice you will gain the ability to be aware of small movements, unusual colors or sounds, even smells that can tip you off to the presence of an animal or bird even when they are well camouflaged.

For wildlife photography telephoto lenses are basically a must, though the use of a tripod is not always mandatory. They give a closer and fine view of the animals without bearing the fear of going close to the scary creatures!

When you photograph animals and birds, make sure the focus is sharpest on their eyes. Shoot small animals from a lower angle.

You will get best photographs early in the mornings and just before dark. This is when wildlife is usually most active and the light is the most dramatic. Try to keep the sun at your back so that the light falls directly on your subject.

And Practice makes a man perfect hold true here also!

Book Review: The Garden of Eden and Other Criminal Delights

"The Garden of Eden and Other Criminal Delights," by Faye Kellerman, is a collection of mostly crime fiction short stories, each having a brief introduction by the author. Published by Warner Books, ISBN: 978-0-446-53039-2, the book is likely to appeal to readers who enjoy mystery and suspense fiction.

Known for her crime fiction novels featuring L. A. homicide detective Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus, Decker's Orthodox Jewish wife, Kellerman includes two previously unpublished Decker/Lazarus short stories within her collection. The sleuthing pair is as interesting and complex in "The Garden of Eden" and "Open House" as they are in the novels. Kudos to Faye Kellerman for maintaining Decker and Lazarus's characterizations in the short stories. The story "Bull's-Eye" is another short story that features the Decker clan, only this time readers are also introduced to Cindy Decker as she and her father work to solve a case. Again, Kellerman succeeds in keeping Peter Decker true to his fictional self and to readers by maintaining his character of being a concerned, supportive father in "Bull's-Eye."

My other favorites among the stories that comprise the collection are "The Stalker," "Mummy and Jack," "Bonding," "Mr. Barton's Head Case," and "Holy Water." While I actually enjoyed all of the crime fiction, these stories stood out for several reasons. The twist at the end of "The Stalker" is one of the best that I have recently read. I enjoyed "Mummy and Jack," a collaboration between Faye Kellerman and her son, Jesse, for its tone, voice, style, and dark humor. "Bonding" is one of my favorites because of its ending and its hard-boiled edge. "Mr. Barton's Head Case" entertained me with its cross genre appeal and its well done blend of crime fiction and speculative fiction. "Holy Water" is a favorite because I found it unique and imaginative.

My least favorites of the collection are "Free Parking," "The Luck of the Draw," "Small Miracles," and "The Summer of My Womanhood." The reason I liked them less was because they were not crime fiction stories. They were all well-written, but they appeared out of place to me in this particular collection. However, the book's blurb did mention that the collection contained other writing that offered "readers glimpses into Kellerman's private life." Still, I would have enjoyed the collection even more if the book had only contained crime fiction short stories.

Overall, I do not regret having bought the book. I like supporting good fiction, especially good short fiction as the short story can sometimes seem like it is becoming a vanishing literary art form. Despite my slight disappointment that the book did not contain a few more crime fiction stories, I think the collection was worth reading, and recommend that readers, particularly those who enjoy short crime fiction, read "The Garden of Eden and Other Criminal Delights."
